Violinist Vadim Gluzman
wins a Diapason d'Or de l'Année 2011 award
for his disc featuring Bruch's first violin concerto,
with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Andrew Litton

Violinist Vadim Gluzman has won a Diapason d'Or de l'Année 2011 award for best concerto by Diapason magazine. The honor was bestowed upon him November 17 at a ceremony held at the Maison de Radio France in Paris, France. Awarded by a jury of critics from Diapason and broadcasters from France Musique, the release of Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 26, with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Andrew Litton on BIS Records, is Mr. Gluzman's tenth CD for the leading, world-renowned label. The Diapason d'Or de l'Année is one of the recording industry's most prestigious awards.

The review in Diapason of the Bruch recording earlier this season stated: "With the luminosity of his timbre, his uncontrived brio and his open-hearted subtlety, Vadim Gluzman brings back a golden age of the violin". "At last, the violinist we have been waiting for ..." - the enthusiasm of the French magazine Classica's (Choc de Mois) response was echoed in the UK by The Strad's Selection of the Month - "awesome technical ease with a sweet Oistrakh-like sound" - and the BBC Music Magazine's Orchestral Choice: "Superb in every way". Germany's Fono Forum identified mastery "at the highest violinistic level" and the Washington Post, admiring "a thoughtful reading that is almost insouciant about its outrageous beauty", highlighted Gluzman's "...integrity and lack of flashiness for its own sake". Christopher Fifield, Bruch's biographer, described it as "quite the finest performance I have ever heard, including Kreisler's famous 1925 recording".

A highly regarded musician and exclusive recording artist for BIS Records, Israeli violinist Vadim Gluzman appears regularly with major orchestras such as: in North America, the Chicago Symphony, San Francisco, Minnesota, Cincinnati, Detroit, Houston, Seattle, Toronto and Vancouver Symphony Orchestras and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra; in Europe, the London Philharmonic, London Symphony, BBC Symphony, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Leipzig Gewandhaus, the Munich, Dresden and Czech Philharmonic Orchestras, Stuttgart Radio Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse and Finnish Radio Symphony; in Israel, the Israel Philharmonic and Jerusalem Symphony, and in Asia, the NHK and KBS Orchestras. A passionate advocate of new music, he has collaborated with a number of today's foremost composers, such as Arvo Pärt, Peteris Vasks, Lera Auerbach, Giya Kancheli, Michael Daugherty, Sofia Gubaidulina, Menachem Wiesenberg, and Richard Rodney Bennett, premiering their works in concert and in recordings.

Upcoming performances during the second half of the 2011-2012 season include, in North America, the San Francisco, Indianapolis, and Pacific Symphonies, the Minnesota and IRIS Orchestras, Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Mexico and the ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, as well as performances at the North Shore Chamber Music Festival in Northbrook, Illinois, which he founded in 2010 with his wife and long-standing recital partner, pianist Angela Yoffe. Internationally, Vadim appears in London with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, in Germany with the Dresden Philharmonic and the Schleswig-Holstein Symphony Orchestra, with the Bergen Philharmonic in Norway, the Orquesta Sinfonica RTVE in Madrid, and the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Helsinki, and with the Baltic Youth Philharmonic at the Dresden Music Festival and Schumannfest Düsseldorf, as well as recording a solo album for BIS in Germany.
